Guangzhou, November 27 - The Chinese sports delegation held a press conference at the Main Press Center with Chef de Mission of Chinese sports delegation Duan Shijie and
Secretary General of Chinese sports delegation Cai Jiadong attending the conference and briefed the media about Chinese sports delegation's performance at the Guangzhou Asian
Games on Saturday.
According to Mr Duan, the 16th Asian Games fully demonstrates the developmental level of sports in all countries and regions of Asia.
At the Games, Team China not only revealed its competition level but achieved its intended goals.
Mr Duan said that till 11a.m.of November 27, Team China earned 198 golds, 118 silvers and 98 bronzes, claiming the top spot in Asian Games gold medal/medal rankings; achieving
its best Asiad results. Moreover, Chinese athletes have also broken both Asian Games and World Records in several events such as Weightlifting, Swimming, Shooting and Cycling at
these Games.
In addition, Mr Duan said that Team China made breakthroughs in catching up and surpassing world levels.
In Swimming, Team China grabbed its largest number of gold medals and in Track and Field, Chinese "flying man" Liu Xiang, dogged by injuries, claimed three consecutive titles.
China seized its first gold in the Men's 100m and won the Men's 4x100m relay for the first time since 1990. In Table Tennis, China grabbed all seven golds for the first time
since the 1978 Bangkok Asian Games.
The Chinese Badminton Team captured five golds, three silvers and two bronzes and the Chinese Gymnastics Team also had better performance at the Guangzhou Asian Games than the
previous Games in Doha by winning 13 golds, seven silvers and one bronze.
